YouTube launches certification program for health-related channels

YouTube announced it will certify channels of licensed health professionals.

It will include doctors, nurses and therapists who produce health-related content on the platform.

Videos from the approved channels will be put in a new carousel called "From health sources”.

The company is inviting US-based health creators to apply for the program.

All institutions and health-related creators are required to follow rules of federal health organizations while making videos on YouTube.

YouTube said it will review the channels according to its guidelines to verify applicants with valid medical licenses.

Once channels are approved, they will get a special label noting them as “a licensed healthcare professional” resource.

Experts have called on the platform to use a combination of processes such as AI and people to measure misinformation against its guidelines.
