Why Elon Musk recommends voting for a Republican Congress

Elon Musk, Twitter's new owner, urged Americans to elect a Republican Congress in the US midterms.

Musk's announcement comes months after he announced plans to vote Republican earlier in 2022.

In a tweet addressed to "independent-minded voters", he said "shared power curbs the worst excesses of both parties".

The endorsement comes less than a week after Musk took over Twitter.

Musk, the world's richest person and CEO of Tesla, took over Twitter in a $44 billion deal in October.

He has engaged in drastic measures including sacking half the staff and a plan to charge for blue check verification marks.

Republicans are favored to win a majority in the House of Representatives in November 8 elections.

Elon Musk is the richest man in the world with a net worth of $204 billion.
