What is Monkeypox and why you should be worried

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has confirmed a single case of monkeypox.

Monkeypox is a serious viral illness that begins with flu and swelling of the lymph nodes and poses no risk to the general public

It then progresses to a rash on the face and body. Most infections last 2-to-4 weeks.

Monkeypox occurs through bites or scratches from rodents and transmission can occur only through contact with body fluids.

To control an outbreak in the US, smallpox vaccine, antivirals and vaccinia immune globulin can be used.

13 million doses of the vaccine Jynneos have been ordered for the US at the cost of a whopping $119M.
