What are the types of breast cancer?

Breast cancer may be of several types. But they are broken into two main categories - invasive and noninvasive.

1. Noninvasive breast cancer is also known as breast cancer in situ or Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).

In DCIS, cancer cells are confined to the ducts in your breast and do not invade the surrounding breast tissue.

2. Invasive cancer generally spreads from the breast ducts or glands to other parts of the breast.

Invasive cancer also known as Lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS) grows in the milk-producing glands of your breast.

3. Invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) is the most common type of breast cancer that begins in breast’s milk ducts and then invades nearby tissue.

4. Invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) first develops in breast’s lobules and then invades nearby tissue.

You are advised to consult a doctor if you notice any signs or symptoms of breast cancer.
