How to avoid neck pains

Neck pain is common. Often caused by poor posture from leaning over a computer or hunching over a workbench.

The symptoms are pain, muscle tightness and spasms, decreased ability to move the head and headache.

Seek medical help if neck pain results from an injury, such as a motor vehicle accident, diving accident or fall.

Contact your doctor if the pain spreads down arms or legs, comes with headache, numbness or weakness and tingling.

To help prevent neck pain, simple changes in your daily routine may help.

If you travel long distances or work long hours, get up, move around and stretch your neck and shoulders.

Try sleeping on your back with your thighs elevated on pillows, which will flatten your spinal muscles.
