On the occasion of Star Trek Day, a memorial spaceflight is set to pay tribute to the cast and crew of the show.

Ashes of the late DeForest Kelley, who played Dr Leonard McCoy on 'Star Trek' will be launched into space.

A sample of DeForest's DNA will join Nichelle Nichols' ashes onboard United Launch Alliance's Vulcan rocket later this year.

DeForest, known for his role as Dr Bones, died of stomach cancer in 1999 at the age of 79.

Organized by Houston-based Celestis, the Enterprise Flight will send the capsules with cremated remains into space later this year.

With an estimated $10.6 billion in revenue, Star Trek is one of the most recognized and highest-grossing franchises of all time.

At the time of his death in 1999, DeForest Kelley had a net worth of $5 million.

Nichols' net worth was estimated to be around $500,000, with most of her wealth accumulated from her career as an actress.
