Is there a shortage of caskets at funeral homes?

Several distributors in the US have discontinued their business with funeral homes amid a shortage in supply in the country.

This development comes at a time when America is witnessing a high death rate across states.

Leading distributors include prominent casket companies which are affected by the supply shortages in the country.

The local funeral industry is also facing challenges with sourcing chemicals needed for the embalming process.

“Some casket companies had to cut off The Bahamas completely due to the shortage in the US," an industry expert said.

The pandemic contributed to a significant increase in deaths, which resulted in funeral home workers being overwhelmed.

There was a 30-50% increase in deaths at the peak of the pandemic in America.

The US funeral market is estimated to be worth around $20 billion annually (2022), with 2.4 million funerals taking place every year.
