World War II: Poland seeks $1.3 tn for damages from Germany

Poland’s ruling party leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski has demanded $1.32 trillion worth of reparations from Germany.

The new estimate exceeds the $850 billion estimate made in 2019 by a ruling party lawmaker.

According to Kaczynski, the sum that was presented earlier was adopted using “the most limited, conservative method”.

Germany says that all financial claims linked to World War II have already been settled.

Meanwhile, ruling party PiS has made repeated calls for compensation. Poland hasn't taken any official action.

Amid geopolitical tensions, the new demands have strained Warsaw's relations with Berlin.

Tensions between the two NATO members have intensified after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Kaczynski made the remarks while presenting a report on damages caused by Germany's invasion in World War II.
