Pain in lower left abdomen: What can it mean?

The lower left side of your abdomen is where part of your colon lies, and for some, the left ovary.

Minor pain in this area isn’t too worrisome. If you feel pressure or pain in your chest, seek immediate medical attention.

In many cases, persistent pain specific to the lower left side of the abdomen is caused by diverticulitis.

Diverticula are small pouches created from pressure on weak spots in the colon. When it tears, swelling and infection can cause diverticulitis.

The symptoms include fever, nausea, vomiting and abdominal tenderness.

Sometimes even gas can cause that pain. Gas usually isn’t serious but if it’s persistent it's good to seek medical aid.

Indigestion causes discomfort, pain or burning sensation in the lower abdomen.
