Hollywood studios, streamers dodge abortion appeal from women showrunners

Earlier in August, women showrunners demanded abortion safety protocols be put in place at the studio level.

Studios and streamers finally responded collectively within a 10-day deadline.

Netflix, Disney, Warner Bros Discovery and Amazon Studios voiced similar concerns but did not address specific demands.

Lionsgate, however, did not include themselves in the group letter.

The letter also said nothing about ceasing donations to anti-abortion candidates and PACs.

The letter was created by showrunners Shonda Rimes, Issa Rae, Natasha Lyonne, Mindy Kaling and others.

The letters were followed up on August 1 by 594 male showrunners offering their support.

The appeal came in the wake of the Supreme Court overturning the Roe vs Wade judgment protecting abortion rights.
