National Coaches Day 2022: History linked to Richard Nixon

National Coaches Day is observed on October 6 to honor the people who continue to inspire us to work harder and to the fullest.

In September 1972, former President Richard Nixon signed a proclamation dedicating October 6 as National Coaches Day.

It states: "Coaches are highly qualified teachers—in highly specialized fields."

The day was aimed at celebrating “friends and counselors who derive their success through the achievements of others."

For athletes, coaches help in staying focused and reaching their goals.

There are over 137,616 coaches currently employed in the United States, with 51.7% of them being women and 48.3% being men.

Coaches make an average of $42,716 per year or $20.54 per hour in the United States.

The average NFL head coach's salary is $6.692 million.
