National Chicken Wings Day 2022: 7 fun facts you didn’t know

Get your napkins ready. It’s National Chicken Wings Day! Launched by former mayor of Buffalo, Stan Makowski, it is a celebration since 1977.

Since then, the Labor Day weekend has a Buffalo Wing Festival and sees a crowd of more than 80K people per year.

Before it became a hot (pun intended) favorite, chicken wings were originally thrown out or used to make stock.

Believe it or not, the average American eats about 90 wings per year!

During the 2015 Wing Bowl eating event, Patrick Bertoletti ate 444 wings in 26 minutes and created a record.

In fact, around 1.42 billion chicken wings were eaten during Super Bowl Sunday in 2022, according to National Chicken Council.

There was a scare of wing shortage where wholesale price went down to 19%, according to USDA data.

Americans actually prefer to dip their wings in ranch dressing, rather than the traditional blue cheese.
