King Charles III: What's in a name and why he chose it?

Britain's former Prince Charles will officially reign under the title of His Majesty King Charles III.

However, Charles had the option of reigning under a different name to his birth name, just like many previous kings and queens did.

Charles was born Charles Philip Arthur George, and it is reported that Charles wished to reign as King George VII.

He could adopt the regal name of George as a tribute to his grandfather King George VI.

Reigning as the next King George might've also symbolized continuity for the House of Windsor.

He is the oldest person to ascend the throne after the longest serving English monarch.

But despite connotations surrounding the two former King Charles, he decided to be known as King Charles III.
