Kanye West to buy rightwing social network Parler

Rapper Kanye West, who legally changed his name to Ye, is buying rightwing social network Parler.

According to reports, the deal has been finalized for an undisclosed sum.

The purchase will likely close in the fourth quarter of the year.

“This deal will change the world," said George Farmer, the chief executive of Parler’s parent company, Parlement Technologies.

He hailed Ye for the groundbreaking move to buy the social media platform into the free speech media space.

The social media site was founded in 2018 by John Matze and Rebekah Mercer.

The development has come weeks after West's Twitter account was locked over an antisemitic tweet.

After the announcement, Parler linked to West’s account on the platform and the account had roughly 500 followers as of October 17.
