Is TikTok suppressing voting content for Midterm elections?

TikTok may be “consistently and dramatically suppressing” nonpartisan voting content on its platform, a recent study suggests.

This comes amid the high-stakes midterm elections taking place on November 8.

Videos with influencers using election-related words were viewed less than identical videos where the terms were not said.

"TikTok is suppressing more than 65% of voting video views,” an expert said.

Ahead of the midterm elections, TikTok announced some changes to its content policy regarding politics.

The company further barred videos containing political fundraising efforts.

It also mandated verification for US-based government and political accounts.

The study maintained that the social media giant was not doing enough to encourage voter engagement.
