iOS 16 release date: All iPhone users to get new OS on September 12

iOS 16, the next major annual software update for Apple’s iPhone, arrives for supported devices on September 12.

The new iPhone software will bring changes on the lock screen, iMessage, passkeys and app updates.

The biggest change in iOS 16 is the total overhaul of the lock screen.

It has now been made more customizable than it was in iOS 15 and earlier versions.

Users can add animated wallpapers and custom interactive widgets to several swappable, custom lock screens.

iMessages will now allow you to edit or delete a sent text message but the recipient will still see that a message was edited or deleted.

You can expect iPadOS 16 several weeks later, possibly timed with new iPad hardware in October.
