How much will you pay for a piece of Charles and Diana’s wedding cake today?

King Charles and Princess Diana got married in 1981 in a grand celebration at St Paul's Cathedral in London.

As people got a taste of their splendid wedding cake, a slice of cake was kept safe by Nigel Ricketts, one of the wedding guests.

He worked at Windsor castle and passed away earlier this year, leaving behind a preserved slice of the 5-foot-tall cake from the wedding.

The cake went up for sale with a pre-sale estimate of $334, according to reports.

However, it was eventually sold for $189, significantly below the estimated price.

The cake slice was from a fruitcake, one of the 23 official wedding cakes that were prepared for the couple's wedding.

In 2014, a slice of the same cake was sold for $1,100 at the current rate.

Diana and Charles officially divorced in 1996, after announcing separation in 1992.
