Emmys 2022: Barack Obama halfway to EGOT status after best narrator win

Former president Barack Obama won the Outstanding Narrator Emmy Award for his work on Netflix's 'Our Great National Park'.

The 5-part docuseries on national parks was created by Higher Ground, Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company.

The show was developed in line with the lucrative deal signed between Netflix and Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama in 2018.

Obama has become the second US president to win an Emmy after Dwight D Eisenhower won a special Emmy in 1956.

With this feat, Obama is halfway to becoming an EGOT winner.

EGOT is a special category of entertainers who have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony. So far, only 17 people have achieved the status.

Previously, he won two Grammys for the audio versions of his memoirs: ‘The Audacity of Hope’ and ‘A Promised Land’.

The first volume of ‘A Promised Land’ sold more than 3.3 million copies to become one of the top-selling political memoirs in history.

Post-presidency, Obama's net worth has been estimated to be $70 million in 2022.
