Twitter to charge $8 a month for account verification after $19.99 backlash

Elon Musk faced criticism for his plan to charge Twitter users $19.99 to keep a verified account.

Now, Elon Musk counter-offered with a $8 charge per month for Twitter’s subscription service, called “Twitter Blue”.

These Blue users would also get priority in replies, mentions and half as many ads.

This promises users receive a coveted blue check mark to verify their account.

Twitter is working to update its existing subscription product, which currently costs $4.99 a month.

Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion, an amount that he admitted is “obviously overpaying” for the company.

He also lined up a substantial amount of debt financing to pay for the deal.

Elon Musk is the richest man in the world with a net worth of $204 billion.
