Every state has a unique voter registration process, which can be checked by visiting the National Association of Secretaries of State’s website.

If you’re a first-time voter, federal law requires you to show ID if you did not register in person.

In 42 states, along with the District of Columbia, one of the easiest ways to register to vote is online by visiting Vote.gov.

Whether you vote during an early voting period or on Election Day, identify your location ahead of time.
