Diwali 2022: How did the White House celebrate the festival of lights?

President Joe Biden hosted Diwali celebrations at the White House on October 24, 2022.

He described the holiday as a reminder that each of us has the power to dispel darkness.

The festival symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and is celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Sikhs around the world, especially in India.

The president-hosted event was the largest Diwali celebration held at the White House.

Also in attendance were First Lady Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Harris, whose mother is from India, said she had fond memories of celebrating Diwali as a child.

Diwali celebrations at the White House go back to President George W Bush's time in office.

Presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump also held Diwali celebrations during their tenures.
