Biden asks Congress to ease Senate rules to codify Roe vs Wade

President Joe Biden said that he would support an exception to the Senate filibuster to codify the right to an abortion.

Biden seeks to codify abortion rights, which means to “arrange laws or rules into a systematic code”.

This also means lawmakers want to inscribe the Roe vs Wade abortion rights ruling as federal law.

Once the ruling is protected by federal law, it would supersede any anti-abortion laws passed by state legislatures.

Biden called the overturning of the Roe vs Wade ruling outrageous and destabilizing.

He said Congress must writing Roe vs Wade into law and if the filibuster gets in the way an exception should be provided.

The SCOTUS ruling has put women who can't obtain abortions to have a child at a high personal or familial cost.

Raising a kid costs on average costs about $233,610, for middle-class families.
