French writer Annie Ernaux wins the 2022 Nobel Prize in Literature

French writer Annie Ernaux has been awarded the 2022 Nobel Prize in literature.

The 82-year-old is known for blurring the line between memoir and fiction.

The Nobel committee stated that the "clinical acuity with which she uncovers the roots, estrangements and collective restraints of personal memory."

Her first book 'Cleaned Out' was released in 1974 - an autobiographical novel about getting an abortion when it was still illegal in France.

Ernaux also wrote 'The Years' in 2008 - an examination of each year of her life from 1940-2006.

Her book 'A Girl's Story' shared her early teenage sexual experiences and discussed the shame related to the same before her sexual revolution.

One of France's prominent feminist voice, Ernaux will receive a cash award of $ 1 million.
