Angelo Moriondo is the godfather of espresso machines.

Moriondo patented the first known espresso machine on June 30, 1884. The machine could brew up to 1000 cups of coffee in an hour.

The price of an average cup of coffee in the 1800s was about $2.

Today, the average price stands at $4 per coffee cup.
